New app required to download EBSCO eBooks
Answer

As of Tuesday, May 19, 2026, you will need the Thorium Reader software application to read eBooks you have downloaded from EBSCOhost. Thorium Reader replaces Adobe Digital Editions and provides a more accessible and user-friendly application for reading downloaded eBooks.
You can also still read books and articles in your browser on the EBSCOhost platform, and there will be no change to the online reading experience.
What you need to do
- If you only read EBSCO eBooks online, no action is required.
- If you download EBSCO eBooks for offline reading, you will need to install Thorium Reader on your device on your device. You can do this ahead of time, or you will be prompted to do it the first time you download an eBook from EBSCO after May 19th.
- Each time you download a new eBook, EBSCO will generate a passphrase that you will need to enter in the Thorium Reader in order to open the eBook for the first time. This passphrase can be used on up to 6 devices simultaneously for access to active checkouts. If you forget your passphrase for an eBook, you have the ability to generate a new one.
- Any eBooks that you currently have downloaded and are accessing on Adobe Digital Editions will continue to be available on that application through the remainder of their checkout period.
